Matheran favorite Hill station near Mumbai for those who love nature walk, hiking and trekking!!!
!! MAHARASHTRA’S AUTOMOBILE FREE & ECO FRIENDLY HILL STATION !!
Started early morning and reached to Dasturi naka parking by 7:30 am. Parked vehicle and after taking entry ticket (Adult INR 50/-; Child INR 25/-)
After Aman lodge where the MTDC resort is situated you have three options to reach Matheran;
1. Toy Train Shuttle: It takes 10 min and runs every hours (Sat & Sun starts from Aman lodge at 8:40 am)
2. Walking through train track: It takes 30 – 40 min depending on your speed.
3. Horse: It takes 10 -15 min
4. Hand Rickshaw: 15-20 min
Coolie/Porter available from car park to Matheran railway station approx. INR 250 -300/-
We started walking towards the Matheran and followed train track route to reach Matheran. One can see beautiful view of mountains covered with fog in morning hours.
After breakfast, we started from Market towards Belveder Point – Olympia – Marjore’s Nook – One tree hill – chowk – Little chowk – Rambaug – Alexandra Point – Bazzar peth.

5 Point Circle: This includes Echo Point, Landscape Point, Honeymoon Point, Malang Point, Louisa Point.
7 Point Circle: This includes Alexander Point, Rambaug Point, Little chowk Point, One Tree Hill Point, Big Chowk Point, marjories Nook, Belvedier Point.
12 Point Circle: This includes Echo Point, Kind Edward Point, King George Point, Landscape Point, Honeymoon Point, Malang Point, Lousia Point, Coronation Point, Rustomjee Point, Chinoy Point, Bombay Point, Sunset/Porcupine Point.
We completed entire trail within two hours time and reached to Bazzar peth. It was overall good experience for Prisha as well.
After having lunch at Bazaar Peth we took toy train for Aman lodge and returned to the Parking and headed towards the Mumbai.
Tips for Matheran Trip:
- Good pair of shoe must for hiking in Matheran.
- Keep Poncho with you during monsoon & waterproof bag cover will keep your backpack dry.
- Negotiate for Horse ride, hand rickshaw as they show you high price list of points but when you refuse to pay they will ready to negotiate.
- Don’t litter and always keep garbage bag with you and dispose it at bin.
- Keep small torch with battery as in monsoon visibility will be less and you might require it.
- Keep snacks high in Carbs to keep your energy level maintained while hiking.
- Don’t keep food items in open as Monkey can come any time and snatch it.
